Give me your heart

Laurence was welcomed at the University of Tripoli in Lybia as part of a residency with the British Council. She was touched by people’s kindness, and could see the government oppression through small everyday things, such as the fact that most of the trees in the town were kept cut into box shapes, not allowed to grow in their natural forms.

“All we ask for is happiness and peace.”

At the university, some of the trees were still intact so she asked some local tree surgeons to give one of them a form of their choice. They gave it a heart shape.
