Turning into shapes

As part of Artscool, a children’s festival organised by Axis Arts Centre, Laurence Payot worked with children from primary schools, experimenting with material and forms to create sculptures for play.

The work, which encourages collaboration and team work, is a continuation of Laurence Payot’s research into symbiosis and the exploration of a ‘collective body’. Simple everyday objects were painted in a colour palette inspired by the body, and were turned into connecting forms.

Children were invited to enter, hide, hold, stretch, pass on, roll, balance, squeeze in, and laugh together.
