Image: People Pavilion – workshop session with Chinese community in preparation for Light Up Lancaster
People Pavilion at Light Up Lancaster
Friday 6 November
Starting at St Nics Arcade, 6pm
Lancaster Arts and The Confucius Institute at Lancaster University present People Pavilion, a piece of temporary human architecture that will move and breathe through the streets of Lancaster.
Artists Laurence Payot and Ailie Rutherford have been working with members of Lancaster’s Chinese community to explore the architectural structure of the pavilion as a place for rest and contemplation and discover how Chinese traditions survive or change when they are brought to the UK.
At times a meeting point, a place to rest or a space to celebrate – and always a space for freedom of expression – People Pavilion will invite you to come in and experience Chinese culture in an unusual way.
People Pavilion is a touring artwork, please get in touch if you’d like the human architecture to morph into a new shape where you are, peoplepavilion@gmail.com.
